My first out of four pieces that will become my senior thesis. This is a fixed version of the awful original, but I will probably still have to work on it more in order to get it to where I want it. My thesis is a target marketing project where I am doing mock illustrations for Celestial Seasonings boxes (it's a type of tea for those that don't know). These won't actually be used by Celestial Seasonings, it's just "practice for the real world". The four pieces I'm doing have a theme of mythology. This one has the Norse Goddess Freya. The flavor is "World Tree Apple Cinnamon". It's done in acrylic paint and digital.

First of three drawings from my sketchbooks that I decided to scan and color. This one is of a humanoid kirin. Kirin are rather like dragon unicorns and originate from eastern mythology typically Chinese and Japanese. I thought she was rather stoic so I colored her in!
Second drawing I colored. Just some vintage lady in a fox stole. She turned out looking grumpy, but I think it's still fun.
Third and final colored doodle. A moody self portrait. Who hasn't felt down in the dumps? I always thought I have a very particular look to me when I get upset. I've been compared to Rudolf the red nosed reindeer and the like. Also If you have light eyes like I do they tend to get extremely bright. No clue why.

Latest senior work. A poster for a Halloween event. I chose Dracula's Ball because I'm going to it!. Hooray industrial music and costumes! The only restriction was that it could only have two colors plus the color of the paper. It is pen and digital. I'm going to redo the awful type so no worries! I will re-upload it when that happens.

Some recent work for my portfolio class. A two page spread for a children's book. The project had to relate to food somehow, so I decided to do my own version of a page from one of my favorite children's books "Animalia". The page I recreated was the letter "D" page. "Diabolical Dragons Daintily Devouring Delicious Delicacies". This was done with colored pencil on bristol. The overall product turned out a bit too bright, I might change some of the colors in photoshop later. Other than that I think the drawing itself is relatively successful.

First piece of senior year illustration! This is a one week assignment of my choosing so I decided to go with character design. The type isn't very good and needs to be re-worked but I will probably get to that later in the year. This is Wendy the hillbilly werewolf. The idea came to me while playing an old rpg called "Werewolf the Apocalypse" with some friends last year. The idea made me laugh so I thought what would be better than something fun and funny for my first assignment!
This is my second piece of the year. The theme for the project was "environment" or an "environmental issue". I live near the ocean when I'm back in New Jersey so water and the preservation of it and marine life is important to me. However I can never pass up a fantasy idea when it comes to me so here I have a sort of druid purifying the swamp-like water of her home. Been getting a lot of practice with digital which I'm not that proficient at, but this is one of the first pieces I'm actually sort of proud of.

Practicing my digital stuff. Not a pro yet but I'm working on coloring some doodles from my sketchbooks. More will be added later. This is Angel from the movie "Rock and Rule". It happens to be Canada's first full length feature animated film. It was made by some "fresh-out-of-art school" guys and the movie bombed. However, I happen to think it's really funny, goofy, and strange. Cult classic worthy for sure. Angel is more the hero than the guy who's supposed to be the hero and she's just so adorable I couldn't resist doodling her one night. Special thanks to Anne Karetnikov for introducing this movie to me! <3
These two I scribbled in my sketchbook while watching the new Thundercats cartoon. I loved the original as a kid and the new one isn't a disappointment! I like what they kept and what they changed so far. The show must have put me in the mood to draw tigers.
Yes... a World of Warcraft picture. My take on a tauren priestess. No one seems to play them even though I find the idea of them interesting. The colors were inspired by Woody Crumbo's work. If you have never heard of him look him up! He is a fantastic Native American painter.
And a Dungeons and Dragons doodle. One of my biggest pet peeves is when too many people make "dark" and "brooding" characters to play as with "troubled pasts". I played as this delightful halfling bard known as Merrick Kitten's Touch. He did nothing but drink, smoke, laugh, and hit on everyone and everything. He's probably the most annoying yet endearing characters I've ever played as.

Hooray! I love working on this project even if I do lose a lot of sleep because of it. This is for my "target marketing" project in which we pick a market that best fits our skills and create a project based off of it. I chose to do concept art, more specifically cartoon concept art. For this project I thought it would be a lot of fun to do concepts for an animated version of Dr. Who. I chose the newest Doctor simply because it's recent and Matt Smith already looks like a cartoon character (funny face). So here are the early concepts for The Doctor and Amelia Pond. These aren't the finals, but here they are anyway in their early stage. Two villains will be done as well including an alien of my creation and some Daleks. Can't wait!

Painting I did over Spring break. The theme was a human figure interacting with a made up creature. Right up my alley! My teacher even looked at me and chuckled while telling us the assignment. Watercolor on Bristol. A bit of micron pen as well. The scanner was not big enough to get the whole picture but its about 95% of it. Just the sides are cut off a little. I'll try to find a bigger scanner.
Doing a group project in which two guys both named Ben and myself are designing packaging, labels, and advertisement for a made up beer company. We chose to do a cult classic monster theme or "B Movie" theme for ours. We chose 6 different classic monsters Frankenstein, Leather face, aliens, giant bugs, Mummy, and Wolf Man. I was in charge of the Wolf Man and the Mummy. The other image is the side of our 6-pack I did the woman and the placement of splatters and type. More to come for this one.

The first couple of pages for my Lady Gaga zine. I have no idea why this came to me to combine her with 80's cartoons, but it just seemed to work. All the references are either from Jem, GI Joe, My Little Pony, Thundercats, He-Man, Transformers, Silverhawks,Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or Lady Gaga's lyrics/outfits.
Small digital piece for my figurative utilization class. We had to illustrate someone well know and still alive while revealing something about them that is personal. So who better than one of my favorite directors Guillermo Del Toro! I would tell you what everything means but that takes out all the fun!
Ah something a little more recent! I just finished this. It was a project for my main illustration class where we actually worked for a band called "The Wonder Years" and had to design a gig poster for them. When we were all done they picked which one they wanted and that student got half the earnings of whatever posters sold at the show. Mine didn't win, but the band was so impressed with everyone's work that they might contact us for work in the future.
